2.8 The worst call she could imagine

Gabby was confirmed pregnant and Deng was by her side. Of course she wanted the baby, but suddenly the Emperor of Evil felt vulnerable and scared. Deng promised to be there for her though, and that was enough.

The family hosted a Sunday house party and Cade proved that he still had what it took to charm Anna. In the evening, he headed to the art gallery, in search of inspiration for his next painting. He couldn't help but feel at home there.

Dabney chatted with Baby during the party, who seemed to only want to discuss her house. The journalist found it hard to hide the sorrow from her face, with Abbey and Baby moved out and Mum having left, on a more permanent basis, it seemed as though her family were slipping from her grasp. Even if Mum's ghost kept her awake at night, so that all Dabney had energy to do after the party was sleep, she longed for the days when everyone was together.

Dabney had been working on an op-ed piece in her spare time and finally saw it published, a hit, it was the perfect way to make some extra Simoleons to spoil her niece or nephew with. She continued with her usual Monday routine, collecting the family's earnings from the book store and theatre, and then heading to the library to work on her latest novel.

Cade worked at the easel again, having shifted his stir craziness at the gallery the day previous.

Gabby wanted to work out and reach her latest target but she was too heavily pregnant and so instead played chess with Deng, discussing the best jewellers to get their wedding rings from as they assessed the pieces. It was good to lounge with her fiancé, he in his dressing gown and she in jogging bottoms and a comfy top, and she completely forgot that she had intended on inviting a friend to visit.

Deng returned home the same day though, to finalise things in China before the wedding.

That night, Gabby received the worst call she could imagine. While preparing for his move to Sunset Valley, Deng's health had taken a turn for the worst. The hospital in Shang Simla advised her that now might be a good time to visit, but at such short notice she couldn't arrange a flight.

Suddenly her world was falling apart, she might never see Deng again and it seemed as though everything else was now going wrong too. There was nowhere to wash properly as the showers and bathtub were broken, the fruit and vegetables in the garden were wilting, and the maid was taking liberties, indulging in a tub of their ice cream instead of working.

It was Dabney's birthday party, but even though she had only invited family and partners, Jeremiah crashed it, and no one could turn away the repair woman who intruded with her joining in. The stereo was long broken and, while everyone seemed content settling down in front of the TV, simply hanging out with Cade playing host, it was difficult for Gabby to describe the party as a celebration.

It was all too much for the Emperor of Evil and it triggered her labour, which wasn't helped by Abbey being neurotic, who panicked Jeremiah, which made Abbey worse in turn, but baby Marci was safely delivered.

It didn't take Gabby long to get into an argument with Baby about how best to raise her daughter. The career criminal was glad to see the day over, but what if Deng didn't pull through, what if as Marci took her first breath Deng took his last?

Deng's flight was due to see him in Sunset Valley at 9am.

He made it! Deng had pulled through and when he arrived it was hard for Gabby to believe that she had ever received that dreaded phone call. He and Gabby were quick to organise the wedding party, wanting to waste no more time. They chose Stoney Falls as the venue, it being the location most like the Chinese mountains that Deng had travelled from.

As quickly as they came, Gabby's troubles were gone and she headed to the salon to get ready.

The exchange of rings pulled the heart strings of the guests and, while everyone had dressed for the occasion, Cade clearly demonstrated overcoming the fashion awkwardness of his youth.

Deng's son, Jinjing, moved to Sunset Valley with his father. Upon his arrival, and the view of the pink house next door, he was quick to decide that his lifetime dream was to educate the town in the ways of architectural and interior design.

Marci wasn't neglected; Aunt Baby entertained her, as did some of the other wedding party guests who were charmed by the friendly baby.

Dabney chatted with Abbey, catching up on her sister's news and enquiring as to why they hadn't yet seen a visit from, Lawanda, Abbey and Bobby's daughter.

When Deng returned to his new home he quickly adopted Abbey's fish, inspired to create his own perfect private aquarium.

The next day, Marci found she was lonely, upset at having lost a friend, and smelly, despite all the family she was surrounded by who could have taken care of her.

Dabney finally finished "The Evans Get Even", and her hard work and effort had created a hit.

After all the recent excitement, Gabby had been too busy to celebrate her birthday. Her transition to elder was a quite affair but with a small collection of days off, due to her marriage and pregnancy, she decided to try and reach her energetic target of eight hours on the treadmill.

Jinjing started work on a painting on the easel, which was very much thought of as Cade's. Cade didn't bat an eyelash though and just headed over to the Bishop house to hang out.

Later, Jinjing headed to City Hall to register as a Fabric Fetcher.

Deng decided that he wanted to learn how to garden, and for Baby's fruit and vegetables it was just in time. He headed across the road to the Springs with the intention of fishing afterwards, but ended up reading instead.

That evening Gabby realised that she had really become a master of athleticism, a marathon runner too, with all her use of the treadmill. They may have followed opposite careers, but Gabby was definitely Emily's daughter and, during the day, she made use of the chess board, hoping to master her logical thinking skills too.

Dabney practised her writing at work, and earned a healthy thirty-five simoleon raise, while Cade spent his morning working on Deng's portrait.

In the morning, Jinjing prepared for his first job by finishing his external design painting but the job itself didn't go down so well. He couldn't understand why, all the exterior windows and doors had been updated, as requested, he'd even replaced the siding and the balcony tiles.

He was going to go on to work on a bathroom redesign, but couldn't get the access he needed without the client there, so headed off to add a gym to Toby Parham's home instead. Afterwards, he headed home to Marci's birthday party, to celebrate her becoming a toddler.

Towards the end of the party, Jinjing found himself chatting with Ari Kay when the elder took on a ghostly form, right in front of him. Dabney was quick to arrive, unashamed of her wicked delight.

Deng helped clean up the house in the morning, and looked after the garden, before heading to the Springs, and again became too distracted to fish. During the party, he was contacted by the day spa, who wanted to hold a relaxation session with a Martial Artist.

The military wanted Jinjing to travel to Egypt to study the game of Senet for them, and he agreed, but for the day the focus was already the family's house party. During which, he introduced himself to Karyn Velazquez. She seemed nice enough and when he was left standing outside, having intended to visit Abdul Tong, she was happy to chat to him on the phone.

Gabby and Deng made a sweet pair, curling up next to each other while they slept, but Gabby's relationship with the rest of the family was less harmonic. Dabney and Gabby disliked each other so much they got into a couple of fights, and poor Marci was sometimes caught up in the middle.

After the party, Gabby played chess and was informed that such brilliance and mental fortitude had not been witnessed since the Late Renaissance of Veronaville.

Dabney lost both fights with Gabby and, once the party was over, she took Macri with her to the library. While the elder started work on "Backing Up Your Brother", a historical novel, Macri played on her own in the children's area.

Cade wanted to invite Anna out for a date, he had something special planned, but by the time he made the call to invite her out, she had already headed into work, so he relaxed in front of the TV.

Deng took care of the garden and headed to the Spa, to conduct his relaxation class.
