2.2 The sights of Egypt

Dabney spent her last night as a teenager out after curfew and it fell to Cade to lecture her, leaving them upset and uncomfortable. All was forgotten come the morning though as it was time to celebrate the younger Smith twins' birthday and, after cake all round, Dabney and Gabby headed into town in hunt of their dream careers.

Abbey headed to the Strand but didn't get much fishing done before she had to head to work.

Cade and Baby stayed at home, Cade painting and Baby tending to her garden before she fixed the dishwasher.

Gabby and Dabney prepared for work in the best way they knew how, by scaring Abbey, it was no wonder she had so many conspiracy theories about people trying to get her.

The local science lab was conducting super secret experiments involving the Automagic Ghost-o-Tron 1220-DR and while Dabney was very happy she knew there would come a time when she'd need the kind of support only Mum could offer. So, on the off chance Emily could be there for her, Dabney agreed to bring in her remains. After work she collected the family's earnings from the book store and then headed to the library, hoping to finish reading her twelfth book.

After her own shift at work Gabby decided to start a game of chess and, as she was going to be playing anyway, invited around a ranked chess opponent. She was also tasked with presenting the argument to Bert Dotson that logical thinking, which he had soured on, did not make people a tad boring.

The science facility wanted to run a study on the camouflage properties of exotic bugs and asked Baby to collect three Assassin Bugs for the study. She was also contacted by Nadia Lockett who insisted on using home-grown ingredients in one of her recipes and asked for Baby to supply them. So, after another day at Landgraab Industries Science Facility, Baby headed home to harvest the first fruit and salad leaves of her garden and then down the road to collect a Ladybird.

Cade painted another day away and, after spending all her day fishing and catching her first Swordfish, Abbey earned a raise at work.

Gabby felt like she couldn't do anything right when Dirk Daring foiled the Boss' big plot but she still earned a promotion to Cutpuse. She wasn't able to catch up with Bert after work so headed home and relaxed, chatting with Cade, using the telescope and having a drink.

The medical field needed good researchers and Baby was offered a position as a Medical Intern but it didn't really appeal to her in the same way a lifetime of science did so she declined the offer. Her loyalty earned her promotion to Fertiliser Analyst, after which, she headed home to her garden and then out to the Strand, where she caught a Light bug.

It must have been promotion season as Dabney was also promoted, to Automated Spell Checker Checker. Her work day over, she headed to the library and completed her first novel.

Meanwhile, Cade and Abbey continued their routines, with painting and fishing respectively. Through the splashes Abbey could be seen catching Shark after Shark and she felt confident that she had discovered the best bait for them.

Abbey, Baby, and Gabby had a day off in the middle of the week so, along with the unemployed Cade, everyone invited a friend to visit. Anna Alto never showed, even though Cade was ready to answer the door for his guest as soon as the door bell rang. So, instead, he spent the day relaxing and got in his usual bit of painting.

Gabby met Bert at the Strand and felt she knew him a little better after their conversation about logic. On heading home she danced with Nathan Lockett, Baby's guest.

Abbey invited both Aron Dotson and Bobby around and finally learned something about her romantic interest. Bobby was a computer whiz but not so much of a geek as to stop him from flirting with her.

Baby did her usual tending to her garden before she followed Gabby to the Strand and caught a Water Beetle, then relaxed back at home with some chess and a dance with Aron.

Dabney, the only working Smith that day, headed to the library after work and completed her second novel.

City Hall was collecting books for the library and asked that Dabney donate some of her own works to such a great cause. She was also informed that a picture was worth a thousand words and challenged to learn about photography. If life wasn't eventful enough, Dabney was further more prompted to take on a position as Freelance Writer. She headed to the bookstore hoping to purchase a book about photography but, unable to find what she was after, settled for buying a recipe book.

Gabby invited Bella to visit and afterwards worked out on the treadmill, before exploring the skies in the evening.

Cade invited Bobby inside, who had been neglected on the doorstep while Abbey caught up on some more sleep, and asked his own guest to visit. Later that day he started the first of the family's portraits, which he personally thought would be a gem.

When Abbey finally stirred from sleep she made the effort to spend time with Bobby, especially as Octavia had declined her offer to visit.

After a day at work, Baby tended to her garden and caught a new butterfly in her search for Assassin Bugs.

The next phase of Gabby's development promised to be tricky and challenging and she was given "Adapting to the Wallet Environment" to ensure her continued performance at work. She was also challenged to vary her exercise routine with the use of the TV or a stereo, a jog and a swim. After work she chose to focus on her career and started reading her book.

Cade had been driving himself stir crazy staying at home painting day-in and day-out, he had been committed to working on Abbey's portrait when the effects first settled in, but with his next subject out at work he decided to escape to the library, to read about how to improve his cooking.

Abbey returned to the Strand, where she caught her first Tuna and Dabney, having been unable to purchase a book about photography, headed to the grocery store in search of a camera. Supermarkets stocked all sorts of things these days but unfortunately Sunset Valley's grocery store did not qualify and she left without the photographic equipment she was searching for.

Baby tended to her garden after work and caught a Rhinoceros Beetle, crossing through the old Landgraab estate to reach it.

The science lab was eager to test their Ghost-O-Tron 1220-DR, previously rumoured to be "under construction". Having already contacted Dabney they now contacted Cade who, wanting the chance to capture Mum's portrait if it existed, agreed to take in Emily's remains.

Come the morning a party was held with good times in mind and Dabney conducted her first interview, after which, she started looking forward to making it half way up her career ladder. After the party she headed to the library and confirmed her suspicions that there were no books on photography there.

Cade started work on Baby's portrait who, after waiting for Cade to start his work, tended to her garden and continued her search for Assassin Bugs. She found herself at the Springs, settling with fishing. Abbey too got some fishing in, at Old Pier Beach, before she headed into work and earned a raise.

Unfortunately, Gabby missed the party because of work but not only did she earn a small raise but she was promoted to Thug. She spent her time after work beating people in holding your breath contests at Lofty Blue Cerulean Pool.

The family had managed to save enough funds for a trip abroad and with the notion that she may have more success catching Assassin Bugs in Egypt, Baby chose Al Simhara as the holiday destination. Her first catch was a common moth although it was less common in the way it approached her, landing on her nose.

Gabby and Cade searched for adventures. Gabby spent her day with the Badawis, Rainia telling her of some manuscripts she had lost in a nearby tomb, and Cade was asked to tour the sights of Egypt. He decided to take his time over it and explore each destination but the hallway of death leading to the main chamber was the most impressive part of the Great Pyramid.

Dabney decided that as Al Simhara was a tourist destination there had to be cameras on sale somewhere and so spent the day at the market while Abbey, true to form, found a spot for fishing.

Baby's choice of insect for the day escaped her grasp but within the Tomb of Discovery Gabby was successful in locating Rainia's papers.

Dabney had accepted a task to befriend a local and took a photo of the Great Sphinx while waiting for Sanaa Madbouli to invite her in. Come the evening she found herself on the Madbouli's doorstep, enjoying the view, little did she know of the perils facing Cade inside.

In his exploration Cade was eager to uncover every corner of the Great Sphinx, he looked inside every stone container he came across and was quite stunned to find himself pulled into one and trapped momentarily within. Upon his escape he assured himself that he must have just tripped into the man-height box, the door closing behind him. Continuing his exploration he dived to the bottom of a pool, which held an unfortunate switch that released a Mummy from the very sarcophagus which had trapped him earlier. This didn't stop him from diving into two more pools, as a plaque on the wall had warned against, and activating two more such switches. His actions caught up with him and Mummy #1 caught Cade in a fight and inflicted him with a deadly curse, although this didn't stop him from laughing at Mummy #3 before escaping their grasps.

Abbey ended up spending an uneventful day at the base camp. While she had accepted a task to disarm a trapped basement whenever she enquired as to whether the occupant was in to talk to she found that they were out.

Abbey's plans were disrupted by Suad Adham's ghost so she spent another day at the base camp, getting in her usual freak-out.

Gabby delivered Rainia's papers and spent another day in the Badawi's company and Baby hunted for insects again, catching an extraordinarily unusual Cleopatra Butterfly.

Although Dabney didn't especially have any disagreements with the Madbouli's she didn't get on with them as easily as she was hopping to either and so introduced herself to a new family. Unfortunately, she also didn't exactly hit it off with the Ameen's and found herself maliciously damaging their property.

Cade, meanwhile, finished the exploration of one of the Sphinx's chambers only to discover a new entry into the monument.

Dabney wasn't quite sure what had happened but Farouk Rashid called congratulating her on her success in befriending an Al Simharaian and invited her to collect her reward, which she did. It must have been a one way relationship because Dabney certainly didn't feel like she was close enough to anyone in the town to count them as friends.

Abbey headed to the Rashid home to introduce herself to the family before she started rooting around their basement but it wasn't long before the family left for their daily activities and she was asked to leave.

Baby headed out again in search of insects and this time caught a Crypt Moth, while Gabby reported in to Helmi Honsi, upon Rainia's recommendation. While the youngest Smith spent the day in the Honsi's company, she found that she didn't get on well with her host.

Cade continued his exploration of the Great Sphinx, in hopes of finding a way to lift his curse but seemingly having reached a dead end he was left with the only option to plead to the monument. The sky bled orange and a gale swept through the paws of the Sphinx, leading Cade back inside. Certain that he had uncovered everything there was to uncover inside the Sphinx, without the aid of a Chinese relic, he was surprised to rediscover a large set of stairs he had previously neglected. Further exploration lead him to a statue at which he sought cleansing. His fourteen day curse was lifted and the Sphinx itself spoke to him, granting him with a blessing. It was more than a loser like Cade could have hoped for.

Abbey found herself teleporting out of the Rashid's basement. If they had posted a listing requesting help in disarming the basement why did they insist on Abbey leaving when they left the house, couldn't she be left to get on with it in the basement?

Gabby started collecting the turquoise needed to pay the locals with after the boss didn't budget for operations at MorcuCorp properly.

Dabney accepted the task of photographing tomb devises for the Al Simhara Board of Tourism and headed to the Tomb of Discovery while Baby headed out into the desert, still in search of Assassin Bugs. What she thought was a different species of insect to any she had caught previously was actually just a darker shaded Water Beetle.

Cade visited the Ruins of Karnak and, unable to find anything of especial interest, was left feeling rather lost.

It must have been a coincidence that Abbey's plans for the day were disrupted again by a ghost, this time Fwazia Akef's, and she spent another day at the base camp. She probably would have been sent away from the Rashid's as soon as she arrived anyway.

It was the last day of the Smiths' holiday and while Baby did catch a Scarab Beetle she now doubted her thoughts that Assassin Bugs may be native to Egypt.

Gabby collected the last turquoise she needed, riding down the roads on a scooter with a manic grin on her face while Dabney headed to the market to deliver the photo she had taken of a floor mechanism. While there she also took the chance to cool down in the fountain and to capture a photo of a snake charmer.

Cade headed to the Temple of Queen Hatshepsut and while it seemed there was a bit of exploring to do his desolation caught up with him when presented with a pile of rubble and he got no further than opening a single stone container.
