2.6 Admitting defeat

After the usual weekend house party, Cade invited Anna on a date, but she wasn't interested and so he settled in front of the cooking channel.

Emily's afternoon was also a little aimless, she wanted to use the easel but Cade still had a canvas up and so she mopped up the puddles in one of the bathrooms that the latest leaks were causing instead.

Baby invited Regan to visit again and again they had a great date, perhaps he was won over by the TV?

Dabney headed to the library to start work on her latest novel, a trashy one, and Gabby headed to the park to play chess. She was confident enough in her skills to offer a wager on her match.

Emily was going stir crazy and so headed out to the library to read about how to improve her cooking. When Dabney finished work, collected the family's earnings from both the bookstore and the theatre, she too headed to the library and Emily was still there.

Cade discovered why Anna wasn't interested in a date the previous day, she was now engaged to Kenya Kay, but, unable to stay away from Cade long, he was able to persuade her to break it off to give him a chance.

Kelly Faulkner needed a taste test subject for a new plant that had been created and Baby agreed to be that person. She was left feeling very tranquil, so much a success for science that, when Regan didn't visit, she indulged in a bubble bath to revive the sense of calm.

Gabby headed to the park for some more chess, where her game with Alexa turned out to be fatal.

Going stir crazy, Cade decided that another visit to the library was in order and all his trips paid off, along with the odd meal preparation, he had read his way to becoming a master chef.

Kelly must have been green fingered because she created another new plant for Baby to test, but this time the unlucky Smith was left afraid of the dark. When Baby headed home she invited Regan to visit again but he didn't feel like coming over and she threw her hand up in frustration as he turned down her offer.

Dabney headed to the school, where the students enjoyed her presentation so much that the board reconsidered hiring a logic specialist as a full time teacher, after cuts in funding had led to cuts in staff.

Guitar classes were discounted that day so Emily headed to the theatre to attend, meanwhile, Gabby dreamt about babies.

The topic at breakfast that morning was Abbey's pregnancy, after which, Baby invited Glen to visit. She talked Hollywood with him and argued with Mum about getting married.

Cade met Anna at the pool and proposed that they go steady, while Gabby headed to the park, again, to play chess in a community setting.

Emily wanted to spend some time with Dabney, but with her journalist daughter out all day she entertained herself by flirting with Glen instead.

Dabney earned a promotion to Lead Reporter and was looking forward to the control she'd have over what the town read, knew and cared about. What could be more evil than manipulating the populace without them even knowing it?

There were some left over components after the science lab's latest experiment, which Baby was able to take home. She invited Regan to visit after work and their date went so well that, despite her commitment issues, she wanted to ask him to be her boyfriend.

After her own day at work, Dabney headed to the library and completed her novel, "Lavish Lace Lamas", which was a best-seller, dominating the charts by delighting some and offending others.

Again, with Dabney out all day, Emily didn't have anything to focus on and so she settled in front of the romance channel.

Cade wanted to paint Anna's portrait so worked on completing his current piece. He didn't want to scrap potential brilliance but needed the space to put up a new canvas.

Gabby's plans for the day were disrupted by her arrest, which put her whole waking routine back so far that she only had time to wash and eat before she had to head back out to the hideout.

That night, Gabby was promoted to Evil Sidekick, working under a true mastermind and tasked with wreaking havoc as she saw fit, but the focus of celebration for the day was Abbey and Baby's birthday and the youngest Smith entertained the guests with both her voovoozela and guitar playing.

Baby took Regan aside to celebrate in private, with a little woohoo, before Cade came in to start his work on Anna's portrait.

Emily really got into the celebration, despite Abbey hitting herself with her own noise maker, and, once the candles had been blown out, Dabney hugged her eldest sister in congratulations.

Time had passed Baby by. When Mum had passed and Abbey and Baby were left to care for their siblings there were times it seemed as though she were doomed to repeat her days over and over. She had always assumed that she or Abbey would be the one to stay in the family home and see in another generation but Abbey had moved out and Baby had only recently overcome her commitment issues. Admitting defeat, she didn't invite Regan over and replanted the allotment in solitude.

Gabby managed to stash an extra trinket on her way back from a job that evening, enjoying handling her own bonuses, and she decided to make the effort to find herself a partner before time slipped away from her as it had Baby. At the family's house party she asked Chin-Han Steen if he were single, and, after drawing herself away from a work out, she invited Billy to visit, finding out that he too was in a relationship.

Emily had driven herself stir crazy staying inside so much and decided to visit the Keaton household, where she and Tad discussed party food.

During the family's house party, Cade put in the effort to get to know Baby's romantic interest a little, learning that Regan was an Anonymous Source Handler. After everyone had left, he completed Anna's portrait, a brilliant piece of work.

Dabney took the chance to interview party guest Rebeca Andrade, confident that her readers would appreciate a story on such a glamorous individual, and she headed over to the library to start work on it once all the guests had left.

The family decided that it was time to escape from it all and Cade chose China as the destination. Once they'd arrived he sought out Zhan Su and explained the effort he had put into finding a subject for the commissioned painting, which was worth three-thousand-eight-hundred-and-eighty simoleons to the Chinese man.

Zhang Hua felt that Gabby was the foreigner who had come to fix the Dragon Cave and asked that she collect two pieces of platinum.

Dabney visited Jinjing Lu. The telescope lens he'd ordered had been damaged in the post and, after a think about it, Dabney agreed to deliver it to Zhang to see if he could fix it.

Sun Young Kim had set her sights on constructing a miniature, perfectly to scale, tomb of the late First Emperor and Emily picked up her request, posted outside the family's accommodation, for lapis lazuli.

Baby found that Red Assassin Bugs were native to China and spent her time attempting to catch them.

Cade received a call from Zhan, who had a keen interest in quality French nectars. Unable to travel abroad with his business to run, he asked that Cade deliver a bottle to him in exchange for payment. For the day, though, there was nothing to take Cade into the village or the surrounding area and so he stayed at the family's accommodation, playing on the laptop.

Dabney delivered the damaged lens to Zhang who quickly fixed it and so she returned to Jinjing and the rest of the Lu household.

Baby was asked by Ziyi Yuan to deliver Kawarimono Koi to her, in aid of Shang Simla Scholar's Garden rivalling the gardens of the capitol city, and so the elder spent her day, surrounded by bamboo, fishing in the pools along the river nearby the family's accommodation.

The shared self-catering apartments the Smiths were staying in had overbooked and, arriving back late, Gabby had found that there wasn't a bed to sleep in. She passed out in the kitchen and endeavoured to spend her day befriending locals in hope of an offer of a bed to sleep in.

Emily collected more materials for Sun but now the Chinese woman decided that she wanted Red Assassin Bugs as guards.

Gabby visited the Wangs, where she found herself getting on very well with Deng.

Cade didn't want to waste his holiday stuck in the shared apartments and so headed to Emperor's Plaza, but, once there, he found a seat, some shade, and settled in with the laptop.

Dabney visited the Lus. Light pollution was wasting all the effort that had been put into getting a working telescope for Jinjing and she had decided that the best way to deal with the issue was to start by tackling the problem at home.

Emily was of the impression that Baby had snapped up all the Red Assassin Bugs and so she decided to head to Han's Orchard to harvest what had grown there in aid of financing the family's next business partnership.

Baby had stayed up late fishing but when she finally woke she visited Ziyi with the Koi she had caught.
